Satin Dolls

Thinking about the Black Satin Studio 54 trousers we have up for auction this week took this Spybaby back to Rock Follies - a tv series in the 70s featuring a girl band called The Little Ladies. Great colours - even if the song and the dance routine leave much to be desired. Rock Follies also featured some heavily Biba influenced styling, testament to the wonderful shop at the height of its popularity at the time the series was being shown.

70s Eurovision Chic

We think we make some bold choices in clothes these days, but there is nothing new in heaven or earth. This is 1972 people. They could be in an ad for American Apparel shot yesterday.

Check the hand knit tank, the zip on those leather pants, the gents' coloured trousers and the clashy prints thing. These people - The New Seekers - represented us at the Eurovision Song Contest in that year in which they wore an ensemble no less extreme involving full length polyester maxi dresses and embroidered velvet. And the same song with different oufits here - patchwork flared trousers. Lovely.

BTW If retro Eurovision chic is your thing, don't miss Lulu in a sugar pink, daisy embellished mini here in 1968. Looks a bit mutton even back then imho.
