Bay Day

And of course being Thursday, new on EBay for you tonight are a bunch of sweeties: maxi dresses and clutches are the theme of the week, including a very early Laura Ashley dress, from the days when she and her husband were printing their own fabric in Wales.

Designer Laura Ashley based her early prints on fabric she found in a Women's Institute exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. You can see the Victorian influence if you look at the print, but the colours are completely of the time, and remind us that the 1970s - when purple reigned supreme - were just round the corner when this dress was made.

It's nice when we get to handle pieces like this.
A genuine piece of British fashion history, and lovely to wear in the Summer sunshine.

Sunny sundae afternoon

It's 25 degrees in the Spybaby back gardens today and what we need is an ice cream. And looky here - you can crochet this one yourself!

Pattern at Etsy by seller stripeyblue. She also crochets toffee apples, so Bonfire Night is sorted.

Guess the year?

Would you believe this is the cover of Vogue in August 1946. Don'cha just love vintage?

A lovely day on the Bay

Some lovely Summer glamour for you on EBay tonight, from the 1950s (red satin, green and gold and blue cocktail dresses) to the 60s (Samuel Sherman green mini) and 70s (sexy sheer Peepers maxi).

Bottom right is another Quad dress. We sold a cotton print one from the same label last week. Quad was one of the British boutiques that opened in London in the late 60s. Their designs have a soft, romantic feel that is unmistakably connected to the Summer of Love.

The red satin 1950s column dress (top centre) amazingly still has its shop tag. It is unworn (or bnwt in EBay jargon). You don't find many of those - most women would get rid of an unworn dress eventually. Makes you wish vintage garments could come with a log book: why did she buy it? Why didn't she wear it? Why did she keep it?

What do you think...?

Remember - you can click the big pink button (top right of the page) any time to see what we are selling on EBay this week. Or pop in and see us (and the clothes) at the shop.
